Back in February I posted a piece on my favorite gardening tools. Today I am going to list my favorite of favorite garden and plant books (alphabetically by title). I still refer to these books often, but more importantly each has helped me determine what kind of gardener I am. Let me know what your favorites are.

  • California Native Plants for the Garden by Carol Bornstein, David Fross & Bart O’Brien
  • Flora of the Santa Ana River and Environs by Oscar Clarke
  • Gardening with a Wild Heart by Judith Lowry
  • Growing California Native Plants by Marjorie Schmidt
  • In a Desert Garden: Love and Death Among the Insects by John Alcock
  • The Informed Gardener by Linda Chalker-Scott
  • Insects and Gardens by Eric Grissell and photography by Carll Goodpasture
  • An Island Called California by Elna Bakker
  • The Jepson Manual: Higher Plants of California edited by James Hickman
  • The Landscaping Ideas of Jays by Judith Lowry
