Bee on Salvia

There is a volunteer at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden who is especially interested in native bees. In his effort to identify and learn, he takes the most wonderful pictures of these small and often unseen creatures. I am uploading a few pictures that I took at home of a bee that looks different from the more common European honeybee. If you know what it is, please leave a comment.

 3. Good to see the bees flying. I saw what looked like a bumble bee in our garden before more snow fell Sunday morning. I hope she got home safe. Pickings are slim so early in this area.
I do not know what kind of bee that is but Busy Bee Girl might if you ask her at http://buzzybeegirl.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/ww-sleepbee/#comments

She works with native bees and is a Californian.

 4. Thanks Gloria, I just emailed her.
