From FavoriteBooks |
Back in February I posted a piece on my favorite gardening tools. Today I am going to list my favorite of favorite garden and plant books (alphabetically by title). I still refer to these books often, but more importantly each has helped me determine what kind of gardener I am. Let me know what your favorites are.
- California Native Plants for the Garden by Carol Bornstein, David Fross & Bart O’Brien
- Flora of the Santa Ana River and Environs by Oscar Clarke
- Gardening with a Wild Heart by Judith Lowry
- Growing California Native Plants by Marjorie Schmidt
- In a Desert Garden: Love and Death Among the Insects by John Alcock
- The Informed Gardener by Linda Chalker-Scott
- Insects and Gardens by Eric Grissell and photography by Carll Goodpasture
- An Island Called California by Elna Bakker
- The Jepson Manual: Higher Plants of California edited by James Hickman
- The Landscaping Ideas of Jays by Judith Lowry
- Noah’s Garden by Sara Stein
- Second Nature by Michael Pollan
My desk is cluttered with wildflower and mushroom field guides and one perennial nursery catalog.
Any favorites you want to tell us about?
